Board agenda template

This agenda template is different from the typical (older) style board agenda template. It is more focused on modern boards using consent agendas and strategic and goal-based meetings.

Meeting header

The meeting header contains the general meeting information:

  • Date
  • Start time
  • End time
  • Purpose
  • Location
  • Video/teleconference info
  • List of participants including guests
  • List of meeting documents or documents include in the meeting package

Agenda items

For each item, list the following information:

  • Title
  • Description
  • Item type (discussion, motion, etc.)
  • Person responsible for the item (lead)
  • Alloted time
  • List of reference documents (if applicable)

2. Consent agenda items

A consent agenda is a list of non-controversial items that can be approved as a group.
Typical items on a consent agenda might include:

  • Approval of previous meeting minutes
  • Financial reports
  • Routine committee reports
  • Staff or volunteer appointments
  • Non-controversial policy updates

3. Strategic agenda items

These focus on the long-term vision and direction of the organization.
They might include items like:

  • Evaluating market trends
  • Resource allocation
  • Risk management

4. Goal-based agenda items

These are more specific and actionable, often tied to short-term objectives.
They might include:

  • Progress updates
  • Performance metrics
  • Problem-solving
  • Action planning

5. Adjournment items

Ending items used to conclude the meeting.
Examples are:

  • Meeting summary
  • Review of actions
  • Announcements
  • Date of the next meeting
